Can Dental Implants Be Done In One Day

A missing tooth means a lack of support for those around it. As a result, your teeth can begin shifting and putting your oral health at risk. Thankfully, dental implants fill the space, restoring normal function and appearance to your teeth.

But how long does it take? Can dental implants be done in one day? Here is what you need to know.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

Single dental implants, implant bridges, and implant-supported dentures all fill in where teeth once were. They look completely natural – and function naturally, too. So, how do they work?

A small titanium post is implanted into the jaw bone. It will remain there until the two undergo osseointegration, meaning that they fuse together. Once this occurs and the dentist feels it is sturdy enough to move forward, an abutment will be attached that will hold a custom-designed dental crown in place.

In all, the process can take anywhere from five to nine months on average to be fully complete.

Keep in mind that there are instances that may delay this treatment. For example, because the jaw bone holds the implant, you will need to have enough bone density to create the secure anchor. If not, you may need a bone grafting procedure and this may add a couple of months onto the timeline.

A consultation with your dentist is the best way to get a more accurate time estimate.

Can Dental Implants Be Done in One Day?

Although traditional dental implants take months to complete, there is an option that will allow you to walk out of your dentist’s office with brand-new teeth.

In one single appointment, you can have your teeth extracted, implants placed, and restorations attached. Implants done using this method are just as successful as the traditional procedure. But, getting same-day implants doesn’t only reduce the timeline —  it reduces cost and risk, too.

A consultation with your dentist will determine which type of dental implants may be best for you.
